Charles-Yves

Project Manager- Engineer

Charles-Yves Janssens aka Charly. I started out my career as a Process Engineer for a technology company in the oil & gas refining industry. My first job experience enabled me to apply and further develop my chemical engineering background from university. Working as a Process Engineer, made me also figure out that my scope of interest went beyond a single process or industry. A process targets to have the same outcome every time and tries to limit any variability. A project however, is a temporary endeavour where all the different processes and people get to interact and align to achieve a common goal. That goal is getting the job done right within an agreed timeframe and budget, and keeping the many stakeholders in a project satisfied. Organisations and companies develop projects to ready themselves for the future. Working at Cyclops, you get to be part of that and drive projects during their whole lifecycle, from a blank sheet of paper to a happy customer. And the best thing about it, is that you get to do it with people that are as passionate as you about their job.

Since I joined Cyclops in 2016, two years have flown by. ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’ is the least you can say about the challenging and exciting journey I have experienced so far working as Project Engineer for this company. It was in every sense a great personal journey, boosted by the many opportunities I came across managing projects from conception till start-up.

Before I started at Cyclops, I worked as a Process Engineer for another company for four years. Cyclops offered the hands-on approach to industrial projects that I was looking for and an environment which stimulates working with a broader range of technical skills. But in doing so, the importance of investing time in the people engaged in projects is always being emphasized.

Working for Cyclops at different companies in various industries, you naturally discover and reflect on your personal strengths and weaknesses. And you learn how to grow confident and develop your unique style of communication, the key to success in every project.

Each day is different and, for me, it is this diversity that makes working at Cyclops really enjoyable. Everyone at Cyclops is smart, energetic, and fun to work with. We love what we do, and that shows in the strong relationships we built with our colleagues and customers.

You do not often get the chance to grow in sync with the company you work for, but the managers at Cyclops are strongly encouraging everybody to contribute to the development of the company and supporting each good initiative. At the same time, they act as mentors, sharing their extensive experience and knowledge through training and continuous feedback. Careful attention is being paid to integrate all employee’s suggestions and opinions in the long-term strategy.

This is an exciting time to be working at Cyclops and I look forward to take on the opportunities and face the challenges that come with the expansion of the business. In other words: bring on the fun!
